As Jordan Spieth’s Comeback Backfires, Justin Thomas Copies His Iconic PGA Tour Move to Get Fans Talking
The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tournament on January 30th saw the return of some big names to the greens after lengthy injuries. Yes, we are talking about frenemies Jordan Spieth and Scottie Scheffler. Scottie Scheffler’s palm injury news is new, but Spieth, in particular, has been dealing with a nagging wrist injury since 2017. This also undoubtedly impacted his performance over these years.
Take his first few wins, for instance. The Texas pro won an impressive 11 titles in the first six years of his PGA Tour career. And how can we forget his signature toss at the final round of the 2017 Travelers Championship, which was also copied by his childhood friend, Justin Thomas at the $20M event. Yes, you read that right.
Justin Thomas, made headlines in the second round of the 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am when he holed out from 80 feet for an eagle at the par-5 18th hole. Not just that, the 15X PGA Tour winner, also snatched the limelight by throwing away the club in a similar way Speith did in his iconic 2017 Travelers Win. During the tournament, Jordan Spieth holed out from the bunker for birdie and won in sudden death on the par-4 18th hole.

But what about Spieth’s performance at Pebble Beach? Despite his claim he’s fully recovered from his wrist injury, the results suggest otherwise. In the second round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Spieth and Thomas were tied together, but their scores told a different story. Thomas sat at T13 with an impressive 8 under par, while Spieth struggled to keep up, holding the T62nd position with a total of 2 under par.

Djokovic learns fate in new home as Sabalenka addresses behaviour
Express Sport brings you the latest tennis news from the Paris Masters.
We’re reaching the business end of the Paris Masters, as eight players become four in the French capital. Jannik Sinner is the overwhelming favourite to lift the trophy after Carlos Alcaraz was dumped out by Cameron Norrie in the Spaniard’s opening match. Norrie was then beaten by Valentin Vacherot, whose amazing 10-match winning streak at Masters 1000 level came to an end when he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Canadian star Auger-Aliassime will face Alexander Bublik in the semis. Bublik defeated Alex de Minaur, who is among those to have already qualified for the year-end ATP Finals. Sinner is through to his first Paris Masters semi-final after beating Ben Shelton. He’ll face defending champion Alexander Zverev, who survived a tough match against Daniil Medvedev.
Novak Djokovic is not involved in the Paris Masters, having decided to skip the event for the second year in a row, but he has learned his fate in the draw of next week’s ATP 250 in Athens. And over in Riyadh, the WTA Finals are about to get underway.
