Scheffler Leads Betting Odds at Torrey Pines, Hoping to End Recent Trend
Betting favorites have struggled at Torrey Pines in recent years, but Scottie Scheffler is looking to change that at The Genesis Invitational.
This year’s tournament has temporarily moved to Torrey Pines Golf Club in La Jolla, California, after wildfires forced officials to relocate from The Riviera Country Club. Unlike the Farmers Insurance Open, which uses both the North and South Courses, all four rounds this week will be played on the tougher South Course.
Scheffler (+350) enters as the favorite at FanDuel Sportsbook despite skipping Torrey Pines three weeks ago when Harris English won the Farmers. He has only made the cut once in three Farmers appearances (T20 in 2022) and is coming off a T25 finish last week in Arizona, where a closing 41 on the back nine hurt his chances. Earlier this season, he finished T9 at Pebble Beach.
Rory McIlroy (+700) follows closely in the odds after his recent victory at Pebble Beach. He finished T7 at the 2021 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines and has placed T5, T3, and T16 in three Farmers starts. Despite his strong form, Scheffler remains the favorite.
Collin Morikawa (+1400) is expected to thrive on the narrow fairways of the South Course. Ranked seventh in Driving Accuracy last season and T11 in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green, the Southern California native has the precision needed for this course. He has already posted strong results this season, including a runner-up finish at The Sentry and T17 at Pebble Beach. He was T4 at the 2021 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines and finished solo third at the 2023 Farmers.
Justin Thomas (+2200) is chasing his first win since the 2022 PGA Championship. Playing for the fifth time in seven weeks, he has shown glimpses of form, including a T6 finish last week. He has made the cut in all five previous appearances at Torrey Pines (Farmers and U.S. Open), with his best result being T10 in 2014.
Ludvig Åberg (+2200) has had mixed experiences at Torrey Pines. He finished T9 in his debut last year but struggled with illness and difficult conditions last month, finishing T42. After withdrawing from Pebble Beach and skipping last week’s event, he returns in better health. He ranked fourth in Total Driving and 15th in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green last season.
Hideki Matsuyama (+2200) brings the most experience among top contenders, making his 14th start at Torrey Pines. He has played the weekend in nine straight Farmers Insurance Opens and finished T26 at the 2021 U.S. Open. After an early-season victory at Kapalua, he leads the PGA TOUR in Strokes Gained: Around the Green in 2024, a skill that could prove valuable this week.
Harris English (+6000) claimed the Farmers Insurance Open title at 8-under, the highest winning score at the event since 2016. Sam Stevens (+9000) shot the lowest final-round score to secure solo second, while Andrew Novak (+12000) finished third after a strong Round 3. Both players are making back-to-back starts in Signature Events.
Thomas Detry (+6000) dominated last week at the WM Phoenix Open, winning by seven shots for his first PGA TOUR title. He has made the cut in all three of his previous starts at Torrey Pines and finished T15 at the Farmers this year. San Diego native Michael Kim (+15000) and Daniel Berger (+10000) both earned their spots in the field through the Aon Swing 5.
Past winners at Torrey Pines include Matthieu Pavon (+35000), Max Homa (+17000), Justin Rose (+17000), and Jason Day (+4500). Tournament host Tiger Woods originally planned to make his first official start of 2025 but withdrew from the field on Monday.

Emma Raducanu’s former fitness trainer, Yutaka Nakamura, has officially started working with another player, this time on the men’s circuit. Raducanu announced that Nakamura had joined her team last December, and he was set to travel with her during “most weeks” of the season.
However, Nakamura has been absent from her box for most of the year, reportedly stepping back for personal reasons in the spring. Raducanu has since been working with other physios, including Daniel Pohl and Jerome Poupel. And Nakamura has now seemingly joined Grigor Dimitrov’s team, months after the Bulgarian’s heartbreaking injury retirement at Wimbledon.
Dimitrov led top seed and eventual champion Jannik Sinner by two sets to love in the fourth round of Wimbledon this summer when he suddenly went down in tears, picking up a pectoral injury.
The former world No. 3 received off-court treatment, but he was unable to continue and returned to the court to retire from the match. Dimitrov has since revealed that he spent two hours crying in the locker room, and he later shared a photo from the hospital.
During his injury layoff, Dimitrov’s team had a shake-up, and he parted ways with his coach, Jamie Delgado, who has since joined Jack Draper’s camp. The 34-year-old has now returned to competition at the Paris Masters with some new faces in his box.
One of them is Nakamura, who has a wealth of experience on the WTA Tour, also working with Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka, as well as Raducanu.
