Jon Rahm reveals LIV Golf ‘frustration’ despite banking $2.6 million bonus in Saudi Arabia
Jon Rahm kicked off his 2025 LIV Golf season by winning the Riyadh team title with Legion XIII, but the Spaniard was not fully pleased with his week one showing
Jon Rahm may have banked a $2.6 million bonus and the Riyadh team title in his opening event of the LIV Golf season, but the Legion XIII captain left Saudi Arabia with an element of frustration.
Rahm and his new-look Legion XIII team – following the addition of Tom McKibbin – dominated at Riyadh Golf Club, winning the team crown by a whopping 11 shots ahead of Ripper GC after all four players finished inside the top-15. It was the perfect start to the campaign, but something was missing for their captain.
Rahm fell short of completing the double in Saudi Arabia, ending the tournament in a tie for second in the individual standings, two shots behind Adrian Meronk, who secured his first victory on the LIV circuit.
A tied-second finish, a team title, and a cool payout is usually a hugely succesful tournament for most, but Rahm’s failure to pip Meronk late on left him wanting more out of his week. “It’s just frustrating,” he said of his tied-second finish under the lights in the Middle East.
“Every day I’ve made, I would say, two big mistakes that I think were avoidable, two very easy ones to say I bogeyed two par-5s without any penalty strokes and being in play, in a decent spot or a good spot on my third spot at least. If I could at least clean that up and clean up a couple very, very fixable mistakes, it would have been better.
“I think I played good enough to win. Obviously it just maybe wasn’t my week. But I could go through the rounds and tell you a couple moments a day that could have changed things.” Despite missing out individually, Rahm was of course over the moon with his team’s performance.

Djokovic learns fate in new home as Sabalenka addresses behaviour
Express Sport brings you the latest tennis news from the Paris Masters.
We’re reaching the business end of the Paris Masters, as eight players become four in the French capital. Jannik Sinner is the overwhelming favourite to lift the trophy after Carlos Alcaraz was dumped out by Cameron Norrie in the Spaniard’s opening match. Norrie was then beaten by Valentin Vacherot, whose amazing 10-match winning streak at Masters 1000 level came to an end when he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Canadian star Auger-Aliassime will face Alexander Bublik in the semis. Bublik defeated Alex de Minaur, who is among those to have already qualified for the year-end ATP Finals. Sinner is through to his first Paris Masters semi-final after beating Ben Shelton. He’ll face defending champion Alexander Zverev, who survived a tough match against Daniil Medvedev.
Novak Djokovic is not involved in the Paris Masters, having decided to skip the event for the second year in a row, but he has learned his fate in the draw of next week’s ATP 250 in Athens. And over in Riyadh, the WTA Finals are about to get underway.
