Living a ‘Double Life,’ Scottie Scheffler Gets Candid on the ‘Hard’ Reality of Winning on the PGA Tour
If you’ve been keeping up with Scottie Scheffler, you know the headlines were all about him last year. He kicked things off with a Masters win in April, then struck gold at the Paris Olympics. His first Olympic win! In total, he racked up seven PGA Tour victories and the Olympic gold, cementing his status as the game’s victory magnet.
Add to that his Hero World Challenge victory, and you have another win in Team USA’s hands. But Scheffler’s year was no less than a plot twist. It was a crazy time when he was arrested at Valhalla Golf Club with many charges. What’s crazier is that, it wasn’t long after welcoming his newborn. This is just an overview that clearly, it hasn’t been easy for the number one.
Then, Scheffler made the following statement, “I feel like playing professional golf is an endlessly unsatisfying career.” Um, what? But this wasn’t the only time he talked about his family. Scheffler said that there’s a part of his life that his fans are not aware of. “I am proud to have a great wife and a great family. And we have great friends at home,” he said, adding that he doesn’t think life is all about lifting trophies. You’ll be glad to know that Scheffler still feels the same way.
During an appearance on Fore Play Golf, when asked about how he felt about this “surreal season,” Scheffler gave a very perky answer. “Um, does it feel real? I mean, did it feel real? Yeah. But also, like… I feel like we live a double life. Essentially, you go out and play… and play tournaments and, like, play on TV. You do all that stuff, and then you come home, and everything’s exactly the same.” Scheffler’s carrying more weight than a caddie with an overstuffed golf bag after last year’s awesome run. Can he handle the heat?
In an exclusive interview with PGA Tour, he shared that he felt too focused on trying to live up to those expectations. Like, isn’t it a thing with any sport or profession—the many personal sacrifices to achieve success? Last year, Scheffler secured his second green jacket at the Masters Tournament, but his anxiety comes from having it all and not getting the chance to “soak it in.” Talking about an instance, he shared that once he told his friends that he wished he didn’t want to win as badly as he did or “as badly as I do.” So, how does he deal with it all when he gets the chance?
Scottie Scheffler looks at his family for comfort
Last year, Scottie Scheffler dealt with a “stupid” Christmas injury, which forced him to sit out on the course for a while. Before that, in May, the 28-year-old welcomed his first child. So, was the injury just bad news? Well, at least it allowed the young golfer to spend some time with his family. While Scheffler admitted that he felt frustrated sitting at home and not being able to golf, he enjoyed “some good time” at home. Clearly, because of the injury, he couldn’t work out or do anything else. It gave them, “nice uninterrupted time for us at home.”

Djokovic learns fate in new home as Sabalenka addresses behaviour
Express Sport brings you the latest tennis news from the Paris Masters.
We’re reaching the business end of the Paris Masters, as eight players become four in the French capital. Jannik Sinner is the overwhelming favourite to lift the trophy after Carlos Alcaraz was dumped out by Cameron Norrie in the Spaniard’s opening match. Norrie was then beaten by Valentin Vacherot, whose amazing 10-match winning streak at Masters 1000 level came to an end when he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Canadian star Auger-Aliassime will face Alexander Bublik in the semis. Bublik defeated Alex de Minaur, who is among those to have already qualified for the year-end ATP Finals. Sinner is through to his first Paris Masters semi-final after beating Ben Shelton. He’ll face defending champion Alexander Zverev, who survived a tough match against Daniil Medvedev.
Novak Djokovic is not involved in the Paris Masters, having decided to skip the event for the second year in a row, but he has learned his fate in the draw of next week’s ATP 250 in Athens. And over in Riyadh, the WTA Finals are about to get underway.
