Justin Thomas has last laugh with $9M victory at Rickie Fowler’s expense
Justin Thomas forced Rickie Fowler to eat his words by defeating his close friend in the TGL finals just days after the 36-year-old said that he gets enjoyment from beating him
Justin Thomas will be laughing all the way to the bank after earning a share of $9 million by defeating close friend Rickie Fowler in the TGL finals.
On Tuesday, the Atlanta Drive – composed of Thomas, Billy Horschel and Patrick Cantlay – completed the sweep of New York Golf Club – which stars Fowler, Xander Schauffele and Cameron Young – in the best-of-three culminating series.
One day prior, Atlanta Drive GC claimed a 1-0 lead in the series by topping New York GC, 6-5, in a back-and-forth match that was ultimately decided on the final hole. Entering Tuesday’s contest, Thomas and co. knew they’d need to pull out all the stops in order to secure another victory.
It seems like all matches have been very, very different and unique in their own fashion. So I feel like for us, it’s just kind of sticking to our game plan and what we’ve done well so far this season to get us here,” Thomas told 11Alive News’ Maria Martin. “I think we all have a lot of faith in each other and kind of fill in the gaps nicely in our games.
“I know we’re going to need to bring it because not only are they great players, but they’re going to be playing with nothing to lose. So I’m sure they’re going to be super aggressive.”
Just as Thomas anticipated, New York GC returned to the SoFi Center in West Palm Beach with a vengeance, swiftly claiming a 3-0 lead. Atlanta continued to chip away at their opponents advantage in singles, however, eventually jumping out in front on Hole 14 and never looking back.

Djokovic learns fate in new home as Sabalenka addresses behaviour
Express Sport brings you the latest tennis news from the Paris Masters.
We’re reaching the business end of the Paris Masters, as eight players become four in the French capital. Jannik Sinner is the overwhelming favourite to lift the trophy after Carlos Alcaraz was dumped out by Cameron Norrie in the Spaniard’s opening match. Norrie was then beaten by Valentin Vacherot, whose amazing 10-match winning streak at Masters 1000 level came to an end when he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Canadian star Auger-Aliassime will face Alexander Bublik in the semis. Bublik defeated Alex de Minaur, who is among those to have already qualified for the year-end ATP Finals. Sinner is through to his first Paris Masters semi-final after beating Ben Shelton. He’ll face defending champion Alexander Zverev, who survived a tough match against Daniil Medvedev.
Novak Djokovic is not involved in the Paris Masters, having decided to skip the event for the second year in a row, but he has learned his fate in the draw of next week’s ATP 250 in Athens. And over in Riyadh, the WTA Finals are about to get underway.
