Justin Thomas left with head in hands after teammate’s comment in interview
Billy Horschel has a way with words, and he left his TGL Atlanta Drive teammate Justin Thomas in stitches after comparing himself to a gazelle following a shot at the Valspar Championship at the weekend.
PGA Tour star Justin Thomas was left with his head in his hands after Atlanta Drive teammate Billy Horschel’s use of metaphors following Tuesday’s inaugural TGL championship win.
Thomas, Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and Lucas Glover will share the $9 million spoils after defeating Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, and Cameron Young’s New York Golf Club in the TGL Finals. The team conducted a joint interview following their 2-0 series win. Horschel was reminiscing one of his shots during Sunday’s Valspar Championship, where he hit a bunker shot from 30 yards.
Horschel likened himself to a gazelle, causing teammate Thomas to put his hands on his head before bursting out laughing. “I think it was on Sunday. I had a great bunker shot 30 yards away, and it was looking like I was going in I came out like a, you know, gazelle running down the hill,” Horschel said. “Oh my God,” an amused Thomas said. “A Gazelle? Where did that come from?” the PGA Tour star added with a huge smile.
The best-of-three Finals appeared to be heading to a third and final game after NYGC raced into a three-point lead inside the SoFi Center in West Palm Beach. However, Atlanta slowly but surely ate into New York’s lead and jumped ahead on the 14th hole. Atlanta Drive would win Match 2 4-3, earning each player a $2.25m payday.
The TGL victory was Thomas’ bounce-back after being edged out by Viktor Hovlandat at the Valspar Championship last week. Hovland notched birdies on three of his final five holes to shoot a four-under-par 67 and snatch the victory from under Thomas’ nose.
“I’ve had plenty of chances this season, but nothing quite like that,” said Thomas. His last victory came at the 2022 PGA Championship. “I felt so good out there, so excited for every shot,” Thomas added. “Hell, there’s not much I can do. He birdied 16 and 17. I obviously made it a lot easier. It’s really hard – but really fun – trying to win golf tournaments.”

Djokovic learns fate in new home as Sabalenka addresses behaviour
Express Sport brings you the latest tennis news from the Paris Masters.
We’re reaching the business end of the Paris Masters, as eight players become four in the French capital. Jannik Sinner is the overwhelming favourite to lift the trophy after Carlos Alcaraz was dumped out by Cameron Norrie in the Spaniard’s opening match. Norrie was then beaten by Valentin Vacherot, whose amazing 10-match winning streak at Masters 1000 level came to an end when he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Canadian star Auger-Aliassime will face Alexander Bublik in the semis. Bublik defeated Alex de Minaur, who is among those to have already qualified for the year-end ATP Finals. Sinner is through to his first Paris Masters semi-final after beating Ben Shelton. He’ll face defending champion Alexander Zverev, who survived a tough match against Daniil Medvedev.
Novak Djokovic is not involved in the Paris Masters, having decided to skip the event for the second year in a row, but he has learned his fate in the draw of next week’s ATP 250 in Athens. And over in Riyadh, the WTA Finals are about to get underway.
