Steve Williams Slams Scottie Scheffler: Why He’ll Never Be the Next Tiger Woods
Scottie Scheffler’s Meteoric Rise: A New Powerhouse in Golf?
In an electrifying display of talent, Scottie Scheffler has etched his name into golf’s elite history, matching achievements once thought exclusive to legends like Tiger Woods. With his victories at the 2024 Masters and The Players Championship, Scheffler joined Woods as the only golfers to lead after 54 holes and win while ranked No. 1 in the OWGR on two separate occasions. Woods accomplished this in 2001 and 2002, while Scheffler mirrored it in 2022 and 2024. This remarkable feat has sparked conversations across the golf world.
While Butch Harmon, a revered coach in golf, sees Scheffler’s potential as “a scary thought,” not everyone shares this sentiment. Steve Williams, Tiger Woods’s former caddie, offers a different perspective. With a front-row seat to 13 of Woods’s 15 major victories, Williams’s opinion carries weight. In a recent interview, he discussed which modern players remind him of Woods.
Rory McIlroy: The Next Tiger?
Williams highlighted Rory McIlroy as a “very gifted athlete” who works tirelessly on his game. Despite McIlroy’s impressive skills and presence, his records are yet to match Woods’s illustrious career. However, McIlroy’s mindset seems aligned with Woods’s legendary confidence, as evidenced by his approach in 2020 during challenging times on the greens. He emphasized letting his attitude influence his game rather than vice versa, echoing Woods’s mental fortitude.

Djokovic learns fate in new home as Sabalenka addresses behaviour
Express Sport brings you the latest tennis news from the Paris Masters.
We’re reaching the business end of the Paris Masters, as eight players become four in the French capital. Jannik Sinner is the overwhelming favourite to lift the trophy after Carlos Alcaraz was dumped out by Cameron Norrie in the Spaniard’s opening match. Norrie was then beaten by Valentin Vacherot, whose amazing 10-match winning streak at Masters 1000 level came to an end when he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Canadian star Auger-Aliassime will face Alexander Bublik in the semis. Bublik defeated Alex de Minaur, who is among those to have already qualified for the year-end ATP Finals. Sinner is through to his first Paris Masters semi-final after beating Ben Shelton. He’ll face defending champion Alexander Zverev, who survived a tough match against Daniil Medvedev.
Novak Djokovic is not involved in the Paris Masters, having decided to skip the event for the second year in a row, but he has learned his fate in the draw of next week’s ATP 250 in Athens. And over in Riyadh, the WTA Finals are about to get underway.
