Rory McIlroy’s career prize money goes through the roof as $100M barrier smashed
The Northern Irishman didn’t get the result he wanted at the Texas Children’s Houston Open over the weekend but his T5 finish did ensure he created more history on the PGA Tour
Rory McIlroy became just the second ever player to amass a nine-figure bounty in career earnings with his T5 finish at the Texas Children’s Houston Open on Sunday.
The Northern Irishman didn’t quite get the result he wanted at the Memorial Park Municipal Golf Course as Australian Min Woo Lee secured top spot in Harris County, carding a final-round 64 to record his third top-10 finish of the season at his final event before traveling to Augusta for The Masters next week.
McIlroy has been in excellent form so far this season, securing two wins already to raise hopes that he may finally end his 11-year major drought, and his efforts over the weekend ensured he created more history on the PGA Tour after pocketing his $337,843.75 share of the Houston Open’s $9.5 million purse
With this, the 35-year-old took his total career earnings to a staggering $100,046,906 from 262 appearances, as per the PGA Tour’s website, falling only behind Tiger Woods who leads the way with career earnings of $120,999,166. McIlroy’s fifth-place finish in Texas also made him the first non-American to bank more than $100m in career earnings on the US-based circuit.
Thanks to McIlroy’s electric start to the 2025 PGA Tour season, he has perhaps reached this milestone quicker than expected this year. It all began with his first appearance of the season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February, where a first-place finish in California saw the golfer pick up $3.6m in winnings.
Following disappointing T17 and T15 finishes at The Genesis Invitational and the Arnold Palmer Invitational, respectively, McIlroy then returned to winning ways at The Players Championship earlier this month, where his victory earned him an eye-watering $4.5m, moving him ahead of Phil Mickelson on the career earnings chart and to within a whisker of the $100m mark.

Djokovic learns fate in new home as Sabalenka addresses behaviour
Express Sport brings you the latest tennis news from the Paris Masters.
We’re reaching the business end of the Paris Masters, as eight players become four in the French capital. Jannik Sinner is the overwhelming favourite to lift the trophy after Carlos Alcaraz was dumped out by Cameron Norrie in the Spaniard’s opening match. Norrie was then beaten by Valentin Vacherot, whose amazing 10-match winning streak at Masters 1000 level came to an end when he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Canadian star Auger-Aliassime will face Alexander Bublik in the semis. Bublik defeated Alex de Minaur, who is among those to have already qualified for the year-end ATP Finals. Sinner is through to his first Paris Masters semi-final after beating Ben Shelton. He’ll face defending champion Alexander Zverev, who survived a tough match against Daniil Medvedev.
Novak Djokovic is not involved in the Paris Masters, having decided to skip the event for the second year in a row, but he has learned his fate in the draw of next week’s ATP 250 in Athens. And over in Riyadh, the WTA Finals are about to get underway.
