Amanda Balionis’ response to trolls after Rory McIlroy backlash and break from golf
Amanda Balionis has become a prominent figure in golf broadcasting over the past few years, but the CBS reporter has faced heavy criticism since returning to the sport
Amanda Balionis has dealt with her fair share of criticism after making a recent comeback to golf.
Since joining the network in 2017, the CBS sports correspondent has won over fans. The 38-year-old has been integral to CBS broadcasts on the PGA Tour, forging strong connections with several leading players during interviews.
Nonetheless, following her stint covering the NFL season, Balionis has encountered some online pushback related to her work on the golf course. The backlash was especially evident after her exchange with Rickie Fowler at the Charles Schwab Challenge last weekend, which sparked her to clap back at internet trolls.
Response to trolls
In an interview with Fowler after his three-under-par round, placing him four strokes from the lead for the final day at Colonial Country Club. Balionis broached his putting average and odds of clinching a championship, describing his previous form as being stuck in “neutral”.
Despite boasting six PGA wins, Fowler now ranks 124th in the world. However, Balionis’ interview did not sit well with some fans on social media, who openly expressed their discontent, spurring her to showcase these calls for her firing on Instagram.
Firing back at detractors through an Instagram story, Balionis wrote: “When we talk about being you instead of trying to be what you think others perceive as ‘perfect’ or ‘good enough’…here is an example of how the latter is simply an impossible and draining task.

Djokovic learns fate in new home as Sabalenka addresses behaviour
Express Sport brings you the latest tennis news from the Paris Masters.
We’re reaching the business end of the Paris Masters, as eight players become four in the French capital. Jannik Sinner is the overwhelming favourite to lift the trophy after Carlos Alcaraz was dumped out by Cameron Norrie in the Spaniard’s opening match. Norrie was then beaten by Valentin Vacherot, whose amazing 10-match winning streak at Masters 1000 level came to an end when he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Canadian star Auger-Aliassime will face Alexander Bublik in the semis. Bublik defeated Alex de Minaur, who is among those to have already qualified for the year-end ATP Finals. Sinner is through to his first Paris Masters semi-final after beating Ben Shelton. He’ll face defending champion Alexander Zverev, who survived a tough match against Daniil Medvedev.
Novak Djokovic is not involved in the Paris Masters, having decided to skip the event for the second year in a row, but he has learned his fate in the draw of next week’s ATP 250 in Athens. And over in Riyadh, the WTA Finals are about to get underway.
