How Ted Scott reacted to what a fan shouted at Scottie Scheffler on the range following round three at The Memorial
Should Scottie Scheffler win The Memorial Tournament on Sunday, it will once again be the final five holes of his third round which is looked back upon as the turning point in his week.
Of course, Scottie Scheffler took charge of the PGA Championship with an amazing finish on Saturday at Quail Hollow. And he was at it again at The Memorial, with four birdies in his final five holes at Muirfield Village to move one ahead of Ben Griffin.
It was a stunning performance from the world number one. As many of his peers moved backwards, Scheffler was able to post a flawless scorecard.
But you would be mistaken if you assumed that Scheffler was very content with where his game was at and packed the clubs away as soon as he signed for his 68 at Jack’s Place.
What Ted Scott told a fan who shouted out at Scottie Scheffler on the range at The Memorial Tournament
Scheffler headed to the range after his third round. And understandably, one fan expressed some concern that he was hitting it too well on the range.
All amateur golfers have been there; where a brilliant range session almost leads to more anxiety heading to the first tee. It never seems quite possible, and yet, the ball never quite comes off the club face in the same way once on the course.
So one spectator shouted: ‘save those shots for tomorrow’ at Scheffler. And that prompted his caddie Ted Scott to step in.
“Don’t be fooled, kid. Plenty more where that came from. It’s good advice for most hackers like me and you. Maybe not you, but me,” he said.
The impressive stats from Scottie Scheffler’s third round at The Memorial
Scheffler may not have shot the best round of the day, but he arguably produced the most important round on Saturday. He is now one clear of Ben Griffin, while Nick Taylor is the only other player within four of the world number one.
And clearly, it was Scheffler’s performance from tee to green which set him up for the brilliant day.
Another round like that on Sunday, and it is hard to see how anyone prevents Scheffler from retaining his Memorial title.

Djokovic learns fate in new home as Sabalenka addresses behaviour
Express Sport brings you the latest tennis news from the Paris Masters.
We’re reaching the business end of the Paris Masters, as eight players become four in the French capital. Jannik Sinner is the overwhelming favourite to lift the trophy after Carlos Alcaraz was dumped out by Cameron Norrie in the Spaniard’s opening match. Norrie was then beaten by Valentin Vacherot, whose amazing 10-match winning streak at Masters 1000 level came to an end when he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Canadian star Auger-Aliassime will face Alexander Bublik in the semis. Bublik defeated Alex de Minaur, who is among those to have already qualified for the year-end ATP Finals. Sinner is through to his first Paris Masters semi-final after beating Ben Shelton. He’ll face defending champion Alexander Zverev, who survived a tough match against Daniil Medvedev.
Novak Djokovic is not involved in the Paris Masters, having decided to skip the event for the second year in a row, but he has learned his fate in the draw of next week’s ATP 250 in Athens. And over in Riyadh, the WTA Finals are about to get underway.
