Rickie Fowler’s Heartbreaking Miss: Battle for U.S. Open Glory Ends in Defeat
The stage is set for the highly anticipated 2025 US Open, and the excitement is palpable as top golfers gear up to battle it out at the challenging Oakmont Country Club in Plum, Pennsylvania. With just days remaining before the tournament kicks off on June 12, fans are buzzing with anticipation to witness the clash of titans vying for the prestigious US Open Title.
Among the contenders are notable names like Scottie Scheffler, the three-time major winner and world No. 1, who is eyeing his first US Open Title. Rory McIlroy, the grand slam champion, is determined to secure his second US Open victory, while Bryson DeChambeau, the defending champion, is poised to defend his title against fierce competition.
However, amidst the star-studded lineup, there are some notable absences that have caught the attention of fans and pundits alike. One such absence is Rickie Fowler, who has been striving to regain his form following a slump in 2019. Despite sporadic successes like his win at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in 2023, Fowler has struggled to maintain consistency, enduring a two-year winless drought.
Fowler’s performance in the majors has been particularly underwhelming, with the golfer failing to secure a US Open victory in his 14 appearances. While he showed promise with a T2 finish at Pinehurst in 2014 and T5 finishes in 2017 and 2023, his inability to make the cut in 2024 at Pinehurst No.2 was a disappointment for fans.
In the 2025 US Open qualifying event, Fowler faced a setback when he was defeated by young talent Cameron Young at Kinsale Golf Club in Ohio. Despite a valiant effort, Fowler fell short in a playoff, marking the end of his US Open campaign this year.
Fowler’s journey may have hit a roadblock, but his resilience and determination have not gone unnoticed. Fellow competitors and fans alike have expressed confidence in Fowler’s ability to stage a comeback, citing his talent and unwavering spirit as key factors in his potential resurgence.
While Fowler’s absence is a significant storyline, he is not the only prominent player to miss out on this year’s US Open. Veterans like Sergio Garcia and rising stars like Max Homa have also fallen short in their quest to qualify for the prestigious tournament, adding to the intrigue surrounding this year’s competition.
As the golfing world eagerly awaits the start of the 2025 US Open, the question remains: Who will rise to the occasion and emerge victorious in this ultimate test of skill and resilience? Stay tuned as the drama unfolds on the greens of Oakmont Country Club, where legends will be made and hearts will be broken in the pursuit of golfing glory.

Djokovic learns fate in new home as Sabalenka addresses behaviour
Express Sport brings you the latest tennis news from the Paris Masters.
We’re reaching the business end of the Paris Masters, as eight players become four in the French capital. Jannik Sinner is the overwhelming favourite to lift the trophy after Carlos Alcaraz was dumped out by Cameron Norrie in the Spaniard’s opening match. Norrie was then beaten by Valentin Vacherot, whose amazing 10-match winning streak at Masters 1000 level came to an end when he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Canadian star Auger-Aliassime will face Alexander Bublik in the semis. Bublik defeated Alex de Minaur, who is among those to have already qualified for the year-end ATP Finals. Sinner is through to his first Paris Masters semi-final after beating Ben Shelton. He’ll face defending champion Alexander Zverev, who survived a tough match against Daniil Medvedev.
Novak Djokovic is not involved in the Paris Masters, having decided to skip the event for the second year in a row, but he has learned his fate in the draw of next week’s ATP 250 in Athens. And over in Riyadh, the WTA Finals are about to get underway.
