Jordan Spieth’s blunt verdict on LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau saw him snub PGA Tour allies
Jordan Spieth has previously made his opinion of Bryson DeChambeau crystal clear, having seen the LIV Golf sensation play the best round of golf he’s ever seen first-hand
Jordan Spieth reckons Bryson DeChambeau provided the best round of golf he’s ever seen, despite the fact that he’s the only PGA Tour pro in history to see two playing partners shoot for 59.
Spieth was paired up with close friend Justin Thomas at the Sony Open back in 2017 when JT sank a long eagle to break 60 in spectacular fashion, while he also played alongside Cameron Young at last year’s Travelers Championship when the 28-year-old registered an impressive 11-under-par 59 at TPC River Highlands during the third round of play.
However, according to the three-time major champion, neither Thomas nor Young holds the best round of golf that he has seen first-hand, opting to give the honour to LIV Golf defector Dechambeau for his efforts at the BMW Championship in 2021. DeChambeau made light work of Caves Valley to achieve a round score of 60, narrowly missing out on breaking into the 50s after failing to sink a six-footer on the last hole.
Speaking about the best round of golf he’s had the pleasure of seeing, Spieth told media: “I would say Bryson that day because it was a par 72. That might be the answer on those three rounds.
“I remember thinking both Cam and Justin were right in it at the beginning. There’s definitely an argument for JT because he knew he needed eagle [on the final hole] and made a 15-foot slider. That’s a little bit different. That was the most clutch of the three.”
Despite winning the Masters and the U.S. Open in 2015 and the Open Championship two years later, Spieth has struggled to build momentum in major championships in the years since. And he’s also still searching for his first PGA Tour win of 2025 as this year’s instalment of the Travelers rolls on.

Djokovic learns fate in new home as Sabalenka addresses behaviour
Express Sport brings you the latest tennis news from the Paris Masters.
We’re reaching the business end of the Paris Masters, as eight players become four in the French capital. Jannik Sinner is the overwhelming favourite to lift the trophy after Carlos Alcaraz was dumped out by Cameron Norrie in the Spaniard’s opening match. Norrie was then beaten by Valentin Vacherot, whose amazing 10-match winning streak at Masters 1000 level came to an end when he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Canadian star Auger-Aliassime will face Alexander Bublik in the semis. Bublik defeated Alex de Minaur, who is among those to have already qualified for the year-end ATP Finals. Sinner is through to his first Paris Masters semi-final after beating Ben Shelton. He’ll face defending champion Alexander Zverev, who survived a tough match against Daniil Medvedev.
Novak Djokovic is not involved in the Paris Masters, having decided to skip the event for the second year in a row, but he has learned his fate in the draw of next week’s ATP 250 in Athens. And over in Riyadh, the WTA Finals are about to get underway.
