Jordan Spieth used Rocket Classic absence for noble cause after suffering ‘random’ injury

Jordan Spieth stopped by Brookhaven Country Club for the Under Armor/Jordan Spieth Championship while he continues to recover from an injury he sustained at the Travelers Championship

Jordan Spieth is keeping busy during his notable absence from the Rocket Classic.

Last week, Spieth was forced to withdraw mid-tournament for the first time in his 297 career PGA Tour starts upon aggravating his levator scapulae muscle during the opening round of the Travelers Championship.

After walking off the course at TPC River Highlands, Spieth issued a sincere apology to his playing partner, Luke Clanton. The 31-year-old will now only have several weeks to recover ahead of The Open Championship, which marks the final major of the year.

Despite his unceremonious exit from the Travelers Championship, Spieth was all smiles while paying a visit to Brookhaven Country Club, his childhood home course.

The Dallas, Texas native was spotted signing autographs before giving pointers to several young golfers and snapping photos with fans during the Under Armor/Jordan Spieth Championship.

“What a week at #UASpieth,” American Jr Golf Association captioned a video highlighting Spieth’s appearance. “Thank you to @jordanspieth for coming out and making memories with the field!”

Speaking to reporters at TPC River Highlands, Spieth expressed hope that his recent health setback wouldn’t keep him sidelined for too long. “I’ve never withdrawn from an event ever anywhere at any level, so I didn’t really know what to do,” he conceded.

“It just became too much. I didn’t see it turning around until probably Saturday.

“These things kind of last an extra day, and no matter what I was going to do, it was just going to be [there]. It’s unfortunate. I’ve been doing everything right, and I think it was just very random.

“I may have just slept wrong and then something came along. I don’t know what caused it. I’ve done the same routine. I didn’t change anything up. I took Monday pretty easy. There were no excuses. It was very random. Unfortunate, given the timing.”

As for what exactly happened, Spieth explained: “Everything was great in my gym session, and I’ve been very, very excited to go out and play.

“Things have been getting better and better, and then my right scap just kind of locked, like [it] tightened midway through the warmup, and I just kept hitting, and then all of a sudden it was moving up … and then it was over the left and then it was like everything — so I stopped.

“It was both sides of my neck and upper back. I quit 30 minutes early from my warmup and came back to the table with my physio who was out there on the range, Marnus, who works with Scottie [Scheffler] and [Justin Thomas] and some other guys, and tried to get on top of it, and as I was out there playing, I couldn’t.

“I just wasn’t moving very well, and then it just got worse.”

Express Sport brings you the latest tennis news from the Paris Masters.

We’re reaching the business end of the Paris Masters, as eight players become four in the French capital. Jannik Sinner is the overwhelming favourite to lift the trophy after Carlos Alcaraz was dumped out by Cameron Norrie in the Spaniard’s opening match. Norrie was then beaten by Valentin Vacherot, whose amazing 10-match winning streak at Masters 1000 level came to an end when he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Canadian star Auger-Aliassime will face Alexander Bublik in the semis. Bublik defeated Alex de Minaur, who is among those to have already qualified for the year-end ATP Finals. Sinner is through to his first Paris Masters semi-final after beating Ben Shelton. He’ll face defending champion Alexander Zverev, who survived a tough match against Daniil Medvedev.

Novak Djokovic is not involved in the Paris Masters, having decided to skip the event for the second year in a row, but he has learned his fate in the draw of next week’s ATP 250 in Athens. And over in Riyadh, the WTA Finals are about to get underway.

Tennis fans across the globe are rallying behind Holger Rune, after the Danish star shared an emotional but determined message following his devastating Achilles injury that abruptly ended his 2025 season.

The 22-year-old, known for his fierce competitiveness and electric energy on court, was forced to retire during the Stockholm Open semifinals after collapsing in pain mid-match against Ugo Humbert. Moments later, Rune confirmed what fans feared — a torn Achilles tendon, one of the toughest injuries any athlete can face.

But instead of silence or despair, Rune chose to face the challenge head-on. In a heartfelt message posted to social media, he wrote:

“It’s gonna be a while before I can step on court again… It’s tough. I had so much joy out there, and it’s unbearable to think I won’t feel that energy for some time. But I’ll be back — stronger, wiser, and more grateful than ever.”

His words, filled with pain yet overflowing with resilience, immediately resonated with millions. Fellow players, coaches, and fans flooded his post with encouragement, calling him a “fighter”, a “true champion in spirit”, and the embodiment of perseverance.

Rune has already undergone successful surgery and, in a move that stunned many, shared photos of himself training from a seated position — refusing to let recovery stop his momentum. The images showed a young man focused not on what he’s lost, but on what he can rebuild.

Even as he faces months of rehabilitation, Rune’s story has become a symbol of mental toughness and grace under pressure. His family and team remain by his side, reminding the tennis world that this setback doesn’t define his career — it refines it.

As one fan beautifully wrote:

“He may be off the court, but his spirit is still winning matches.”

For Holger Rune, this isn’t the end of a season — it’s the start of a comeback story that could inspire a generation. 💥🔥
