European Ryder Cup star says something Scottie Scheffler does is ‘a little bit upsetting to watch’
Scottie Scheffler must be so incredibly annoying to play against but in the end, his sheer brilliance and relentlessness garners nothing more than respect from his fellow pros.
Scheffler was a dominant figure on the PGA Tour in 2025, winning five times including two major championships.
The world number one will be the talisman for Keegan Bradley‘s United States Ryder Cup team at Bethpage Black at the end of the month.
First up for Scheffler is the Procore Championship when he played a practice round with Russell Henley and J.J. Spaun on Tuesday.
Either of those two players would make great partners for the 29-year-old.
Scheffler has shared his excitement ahead of the Ryder Cup, but not many European players will be relishing the thought of facing him at Bethpage, that’s for sure.
European Ryder Cup star says what Scottie Scheffler does is ‘upsetting’
Scheffler has won an incredible 18 PGA Tour tournaments since February 2022.
If he carries on winning at his current rate, he will break numerous records within the next decade.
Sepp Straka – one of the European players who will come up against Scheffler at Bethpage – has offered huge praise for the world’s best golfer.
Speaking about the American’s footwork, The Austrian shared his admiration for his rival.
He said: “It’s beautiful yeah. People say his footwork is funky.
“I think the way he moves pressure in the ground is elite. The way he uses the ground to create stability through the shot is something I haven’t seen from a player I have played with.
“The most impressive thing and the reason he wins golf tournaments is his iron play. It’s special how he can hit his number with different trajectories and different curves as well as he does.
“It’s a little bit upsetting to watch knowing that I don’t measure up to that but that’s ok, it’s always fun to play with him.“
Straka is an incredible iron player in his own right, and he ranked eighth in strokes gained approach and 16th in greens hit in regulation on the PGA Tour in 2025.
So the words of praise from the European Ryder Cup star will definitely mean something to Scheffler.
Scottie Scheffler’s iron play stats on the PGA Tour in 2025
Scheffler is quite simply incredible with an iron in his hands. He is the best when it comes to strokes gained approach by quite some margin.
The worrying thing for his rivals is the fact that he’s ranked first in strokes gained off the tee as well.
Here are Scheffler’s different iron play stats from the 2025 season on the PGA Tour:

Djokovic learns fate in new home as Sabalenka addresses behaviour
Express Sport brings you the latest tennis news from the Paris Masters.
We’re reaching the business end of the Paris Masters, as eight players become four in the French capital. Jannik Sinner is the overwhelming favourite to lift the trophy after Carlos Alcaraz was dumped out by Cameron Norrie in the Spaniard’s opening match. Norrie was then beaten by Valentin Vacherot, whose amazing 10-match winning streak at Masters 1000 level came to an end when he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Canadian star Auger-Aliassime will face Alexander Bublik in the semis. Bublik defeated Alex de Minaur, who is among those to have already qualified for the year-end ATP Finals. Sinner is through to his first Paris Masters semi-final after beating Ben Shelton. He’ll face defending champion Alexander Zverev, who survived a tough match against Daniil Medvedev.
Novak Djokovic is not involved in the Paris Masters, having decided to skip the event for the second year in a row, but he has learned his fate in the draw of next week’s ATP 250 in Athens. And over in Riyadh, the WTA Finals are about to get underway.
