Tense Scenes for Emma Raducanu As Brit Looks Uncomfortable in Beijing After Incomplete Practice Session
Emma Raducanu’s struggles on the Asian Swing show no signs of easing, with another worrying update surrounding the Brit. While she has already begun training for the upcoming WTA 1000 in Beijing, reports suggest that she appeared visibly uncomfortable during a practice session.
The 22-year-old had earlier withdrawn from the Billie Jean King Cup to devote herself to the remainder of the WTA calendar, but suffered a disappointing second-round exit in Seoul recently.
What Was Emma Raducanu’s Worrying Admission in Beijing?
Raducanu’s most recent appearance came at the WTA 500 in Seoul, but her campaign was short-lived. The eighth seed and former US Open champion opened with a commanding straight-sets victory over Jaqueline Cristian, only to be halted in the second round by former Wimbledon winner Barbora Krejčíková.
After taking the opening set 6-4, Raducanu was dragged into a gruelling second-set battle, eventually falling short in a tiebreak 6-7(12). With momentum shifting, Krejčíková took full command in the decider, racing through 6-1 to close the contest.
Raducanu’s next stop is the WTA 1000 in Beijing; however, concerning news emerged before her campaign could even get underway. The Brit had begun practice in the Chinese capital but reportedly looked uncomfortable midway and did not complete the session. She was also seen clutching her side several times and later admitted to fans that she wasn’t feeling well.
While fitness concerns continue to trouble her, the tennis world will be watching closely to gauge their severity. Nonetheless, the World No. 32 remains determined to overcome this adversity.
Raducanu’s season has been a mix of highs and lows, with a title still out of reach. She shone at the Miami Open, reaching her first WTA 1000 quarterfinal by defeating Amanda Anisimova and Emma Navarro. However, early-round exits in Singapore, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, and Indian Wells have highlighted the inconsistency that has plagued her campaign.
Thus, inconsistencies remained high for Raducanu, with her 27-19 record reflecting a season yet to match her potential fully. She reached the semifinals in Washington, which was the season’s best, but struggles resurfaced afterward. A stumble at the Korea Open cost her 48 ranking points as she was unable to match her quarterfinal run from last year.

Djokovic learns fate in new home as Sabalenka addresses behaviour
Express Sport brings you the latest tennis news from the Paris Masters.
We’re reaching the business end of the Paris Masters, as eight players become four in the French capital. Jannik Sinner is the overwhelming favourite to lift the trophy after Carlos Alcaraz was dumped out by Cameron Norrie in the Spaniard’s opening match. Norrie was then beaten by Valentin Vacherot, whose amazing 10-match winning streak at Masters 1000 level came to an end when he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Canadian star Auger-Aliassime will face Alexander Bublik in the semis. Bublik defeated Alex de Minaur, who is among those to have already qualified for the year-end ATP Finals. Sinner is through to his first Paris Masters semi-final after beating Ben Shelton. He’ll face defending champion Alexander Zverev, who survived a tough match against Daniil Medvedev.
Novak Djokovic is not involved in the Paris Masters, having decided to skip the event for the second year in a row, but he has learned his fate in the draw of next week’s ATP 250 in Athens. And over in Riyadh, the WTA Finals are about to get underway.
