Jannik Sinner opens up about beating Fabian Marozsan in Beijing
Jannik Sinner reached his third Beijing Open semi-final over Fabian Marozsan. World no. 2 bested the Hungarian 6-1, 7-5 in an hour and 20 minutes for his 40th victory of the season.
The Italian made a great start before his rival raised his level in the second set. Jannik missed his chances on the return at 4-3 and allowed his rival to serve for the set at 5-4.
However, the 2023 champion provided back-to-back breaks to avoid a decider. Overall, Sinner felt good on the court and enjoyed his victory.
The four-time Major champion lost serve once from two chances offered to his opponent. Marozsan recovered his tennis in the second set and earned a chance to force a decider.
However, he sprayed errors in the pivotal moments and ended his run in the last eight. Jannik landed 19 winners and unforced errors. He hit more service winners and had the upper hand from the baseline.
Sinner was off to a marvelous start. He served well in the opener and clinched three straight breaks in games three, five and seven. Fabian served to stay in the set at 1-5, and Jannik landed a winner to clinch the first part of the duel in style.
Fabian improved his serve and in the second set and reached 3-3. The Italian landed an unreturned serve for a 4-3 lead and made a push on the return in the next one.
Marozsan denied four break points and welcomed a forehand error from world no. 2 to level the score at 4-4. The Hungarian took charge and landed a volley winner in the ninth game for a break and a 5-4 advantage.
However, he got broken at love while serving for the set in game ten. Jannik held at 15 for a 6-5 lead and stepped in on the return in the next one. He grabbed another break at love, rattling off 12 of the last 13 points to move through.
“I made a great start and played well in the second set. Fabian served much better in the second set and played more aggressively. I held from 0-30 a couple of times, which is always nice.
I had opportunities to break my rival at 4-3 and serve for the win, which did not happen. Overall, it was a good match when Fabian raised his level. He missed a couple of easy shots in the closing stages of the encounter, allowing me to seal the deal in straight sets.
I’m pleased with today’s victory,” Jannik Sinner said.

Express Sport brings you the latest tennis news from the Paris Masters.
We’re reaching the business end of the Paris Masters, as eight players become four in the French capital. Jannik Sinner is the overwhelming favourite to lift the trophy after Carlos Alcaraz was dumped out by Cameron Norrie in the Spaniard’s opening match. Norrie was then beaten by Valentin Vacherot, whose amazing 10-match winning streak at Masters 1000 level came to an end when he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Canadian star Auger-Aliassime will face Alexander Bublik in the semis. Bublik defeated Alex de Minaur, who is among those to have already qualified for the year-end ATP Finals. Sinner is through to his first Paris Masters semi-final after beating Ben Shelton. He’ll face defending champion Alexander Zverev, who survived a tough match against Daniil Medvedev.
Novak Djokovic is not involved in the Paris Masters, having decided to skip the event for the second year in a row, but he has learned his fate in the draw of next week’s ATP 250 in Athens. And over in Riyadh, the WTA Finals are about to get underway.
