Jordan Spieth’s painful yell signals first-ever PGA Tour withdrawal at Travelers Championship
Jordan Spieth has never had to withdraw from a start at any competitive level of golf in his life, let alone the PGA Tour.
There’s a first time for everything.
After making 297 straight starts at events he was scheduled to play, Spieth withdrew from this week’s Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands due to a neck injury.
“I’ve never withdrawn from an event ever, anywhere at any level, so I didn’t really know what to do,” Spieth told reporters after making his decision, via Yahoo Sports. “It just became too much. … don’t know, it’s unfortunate. I’ve been doing everything right, and I think it was just very random.”
Spieth believes he was sleeping in an unusual position Wednesday night, and the pain began to hit him during practice shots on the range.
His usual warmup routine was thrown off, and Spieth left the range early to receive treatment on his neck. But it didn’t work.
He tested things out on the course, but he looked to be in pain with every swing he made. After 12 holes, Spieth called it quits.

Rory McIlroy’s love story with wife Erica Stoll: How they met, family and calling off divorce’
Rory McIlroy’s journey to the top of professional golf has been widely documented, but behind the scenes, his love story with wife Erica Stoll has been just as compelling — a relationship marked by chance, commitment, family, and a very public reconciliation.
How Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll met
Rory and Erica’s story began in an unexpected way at the 2012 Ryder Cup. At the time, Erica was working for the PGA of America when she famously helped McIlroy avoid missing his tee time after a time-zone mix-up nearly cost him his singles match. Her quick thinking ensured he arrived at the course just in time, and while their romance didn’t start immediately, the moment created an early connection.
The pair officially began dating in 2014, shortly after McIlroy ended a previous high-profile relationship. Unlike many celebrity couples, Rory and Erica kept their romance relatively private. Erica, known for her low-key personality, preferred to stay out of the spotlight — something McIlroy has often said he appreciates. He has credited her with bringing balance and normalcy to his life amid the pressures of global fame.
A fairytale wedding and growing family
In April 2017, McIlroy and Stoll married in a lavish ceremony at Ashford Castle in Ireland, attended by a host of sports stars and celebrities. Despite the grandeur of the event, their married life has largely centered on privacy and family.
In 2020, the couple welcomed their daughter, Poppy Kennedy McIlroy. Fatherhood marked a new chapter for Rory, who has spoken openly about how becoming a parent shifted his perspective on both golf and life. He has described family as his grounding force, often mentioning how returning home to Erica and Poppy helps him maintain emotional balance during the highs and lows of professional competition.
Calling off divorce and recommitting
In 2024, news of McIlroy filing for divorce from Erica surprised fans and the sports world alike. The announcement sparked widespread speculation, given the couple’s reputation for stability and privacy. However, in a dramatic turn of events just weeks later, the pair decided to reconcile and call off the divorce.
McIlroy later emphasized that the decision reflected their shared commitment to their family and to working through challenges together. While he chose not to share intimate details publicly, he made it clear that protecting their relationship and their daughter’s well-being was the top priority.
A partnership beyond golf
Throughout his career, McIlroy has often highlighted the importance of Erica’s support. She has been a steady presence at tournaments and key milestones, offering encouragement without seeking attention. Their relationship illustrates a partnership built not only on romance but on friendship, resilience, and mutual respect.
Today, Rory McIlroy’s love story with Erica Stoll stands as a testament to growth and second chances. From a chance meeting at the Ryder Cup to building a family and navigating personal challenges in the public eye, their journey reflects the complexities of modern relationships — and the enduring power of choosing to move forward together.

Concerning News Emerges on Jordan Spieth Amid PGA Tour’s FedExCup Playoffs
Concerning News Emerges on Jordan Spieth Amid PGA Tour’s FedExCup Playoffs originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Jordan Spieth’s brief stint in the FedExCup Playoffs has come to an abrupt end. Spieth spent the majority of the St. Jude Championship hovering below the cut line fighting to advance to the BMW Championship.
Though Spieth ranked among the top 70 in FedExCup points to earn a berth in the first week of the PGA Tour’s playoffs, the golfer was not high enough in the standings to ensure he would advance to the BMW Championship. Spieth started the event 48th in the FedExCup standings.
Spieth was 50th on the FedEx standings after two rounds, entering the weekend at 1-under par and tied for 53rd in Memphis, Tennessee. The golfer continued to tread water in the third round with another even-par day.
Spieth fired a 2-under-par 68 on Sunday, his best round of the St. Jude Championship, but a couple of bogeys late on the front nine denied him a top 30 finish.
Jordan Spieth Was in Danger of Playoff Elimination Throughout the St. Jude Championship
Spieth finished tied for 38th at 3-under par at the St. Jude Championship. Given big weeks by Bud Cauley (tied 14th), Rickie Fowler (tied sixth) and Jhonattan Vegas (tied 14th), among others, Spieth’s effort fell short of what he needed. Shortly after play concluded, the PGA Tour updated the points list and Spieth was 54th.
That meant Spieth had fallen six spots in the points standings from last week. The fall left him on the outside of the top 50 that advanced to the BMW Championship, which will cull the playoff field to the 30 who will compete at East Lake for the Tour Championship.
Tommy Fleetwood Is Still Searching for His First PGA Tour Win
Spieth was not the only veteran golfer to experience disappointment this weekend. Heading into the final round, Tommy Fleetwood held the lead at 14-under par, one better than countryman Justin Rose.
Fleetwood couldn’t get anything going on Sunday, settling for a 1-under-par 69. He finished tied for third, one shot behind Justin Rose and J.J. Spaun. Rose beat Spaun in a playoff. The outcome left the 34-year-old Fleetwood still seeking his first win on the PGA Tour.

Lindsey Vonn breaks down in tears while sharing an emotional hospital update following her third surgery, as a broken leg shatters her Winter Olympics comeback dream.
Lindsey Vonn is back in a hospital bed, and this time she says the meaning of “success” has changed for her. The 41 year old American ski star posted on Instagram from Italy and told fans she had a third surgery on her broken left leg. The injury ended her dream of finishing her Winter Olympics comeback in Cortina. “I had my 3rd surgery today and it was successful,” Lindsey Vonn wrote. She added, “Success today has a completely different meaning than it did a few days ago. I’m making progress and while it is slow, I know I’ll be ok.”
The crash happened during the downhill final. Lindsey Vonn was racing at high speed when she came over a hill, clipped a gate, and lost control. She fell hard on the slope as the crowd went quiet. Medical teams rushed in and she was later taken off the mountain by helicopter. Doctors confirmed she broke her left tibia. She was already skiing with a torn ACL in the same knee, but she said that injury did not cause the fall.
Lindsey Vonn details hospital surgery after Cortina downhill crash as father Alan Kildow reacts
In her Instagram message, Lindsey Vonn thanked the people who have stood by her. “Thankful for all of the incredible medical staff, friends, family, who have been by my side and the beautiful outpouring of love and support from people around the world,” she wrote. She also cheered for her teammates, saying, “Also, huge congrats to my teammates and all of the Team USA athletes who are out there inspiring me and giving me something to cheer for.”
A medic who helped her on the slope, Dr Thomas Spallinger, spoke to Spanish newspaper El Mundo. He said, “She was in a lot of pain at the time, so I rushed to begin treatment on site and stabilized her.” He explained they decided to send her to the hospital by rescue helicopter because of the serious leg injury.
One day after the crash, Lindsey Vonn shared more details. “My Olympic dream did not finish the way I dreamt it would. It wasn’t a story book ending or a fairy tale, it was just life,” she wrote. She said she was “5 inches too tight” on her line when her arm caught the gate and twisted her into the fall. “My ACL and past injuries had nothing to do with my crash whatsoever,” she added.
Her father, Alan Kildow, later spoke to The Associated Press. He said, “She’s 41 years old and this is the end of her career. There will be no more ski races for Lindsey Vonn, as long as I have anything to say about it.”
Lindsey Vonn’s career includes 45 downhill wins and 28 super G victories. She has come back from major injuries before, including serious knee damage in 2013. Now, once again, she faces a long recovery. This time, the goal is simple. Heal. Walk strong. And take life one careful step at a time.
