Jordan Spieth receives another exemption into PGA Tour Signature Event

Published

on

Jordan Spieth has been given a sponsor exemption into the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill later this month.

Jordan Spieth may draw the ire of fellow PGA Tour members after accepting another sponsor exemption into a signature event.

The three-time major champion has struggled to find form and fitness in recent years and is without a win since the 2022 RBC Heritage.

His low ranking in the FedEx Cup has meant Spieth has turned to sponsor exemptions to get into the bumper-prize-purse events with limited fields.

In 2025 alone, Spieth accepted multiple sponsor exemptions to enter the $20m tournaments.

Last season, he received exemptions into the Genesis Invitational, RBC Heritage, the Memorial, and the Truist Championship.

He also played in Tiger Woods‘ Hero World Challenge via a personal invite.

It sparked a backlash from some “rank-and-file” members, who accused Spieth of taking spots in the field from players that were more deserving.

Long-time PGA Tour pro Robert Garrigus was among those to deliver a rough assessment of Spieth’s constant use of sponsor invites.

“What’s happening to the Tour?” he asked in an interview with Golfweek.

He added: “Tell Spieth I’ll play him for any amount he wants. I win, I get his five invites to the signature events.”

Over the weekend, it was confirmed that Spieth has been granted another exemption into the forthcoming Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard.

Spieth asked for one last season, but was rejected.

Billy Horschel and Chris Kirk have also accepted invites into the field at Bay Hill.

Spieth previously addressed the issue during an interview with the official PGA Tour website.

He said the criticism “stinks” but launched an impassioned defense.

“I was catching strays for no reason from guys who I had pretty good relationships with,” he said.

“I’m not, like, paying (tournaments) to get in. There’s a reason that they’re going to pick me to go in.

“If it’s going to be helpful to their tournament, then they’re going to want me there, until they don’t want me there.

“I’m doing anything anyone else is doing. I don’t want to have to do it.”

Spieth is not alone in facing criticism on this topic.

Webb Simpson and Rickie Fowler have also accepted sponsor exemptions into signature events in recent seasons.

To date, Fowler has accepted six sponsor invites, but he did finish the 2025 season inside the top 50 of the FedEx Cup standings to secure starts in signature events this season.

His foundation focuses on four pillars:

💰 Historic $10 Million Milestone for Good
Reaching the $10 million mark in total donations is a major achievement for Spieth’s foundation — especially considering it started from a grassroots effort and grew alongside his professional golf career.

This milestone was bolstered by the foundation’s first major endowment, which supports long-term partnerships with organizations such as Children’s Health in Dallas, where funds go toward impactful pediatric research and care programs.

Spieth himself has said he never focused on dollar figures, but he cherishes the impact those donations make in people’s lives — and the role his supporters play in every contribution.

Major Update on Lindsey Vonn After Horrific Olympic Crash
On February 8, 2026, Vonn — one of the most successful alpine skiers in history — suffered a devastating crash just 13 seconds into the Olympic women’s downhill race at the Milan–Cortina Games. She lost control, was airlifted from the slope, and treated for what was later confirmed to be a complex tibia fracture in her left leg.

She had also torn her ACL just days earlier during a World Cup training session in Switzerland — injuries she chose to compete with despite the risks.
Since the crash:
Vonn has undergone multiple surgeries on her injured leg while hospitalized in Italy.

After her most recent procedure, she was cleared to travel back to the United States to continue recovery.

She remains immobile and unable to stand yet, but shared that being back on U.S. soil has lifted her spirits.

Doctors have indicated that she may need at least one more major surgery in the U.S. as part of her ongoing treatment.

In her own social media messages, Vonn has expressed gratitude and resilience, asking for support and strength rather than sympathy as she approaches a long road of rehabilitation.

🗣️ “Rough” Recovery — Family Speaks Out
Vonn’s older sister, Karin Kildow, recently spoke to media about her sister’s condition, calling the recovery “rough” and emotionally taxing. Karin described the ongoing hospital stays and surgeries and stressed that Lindsey is taking things “one day at a time.”

Her comments helped shed light on the physical and emotional toll this ordeal has taken on one of the sport’s most iconic figures.
🔥 Growing Backlash and Public Reaction
Despite an outpouring of support, there’s also growing criticism online and in the broader public conversation about Vonn’s decision to compete under such risky circumstances:
💬 1. Debate Over Her Choice to Race
Some voices argue that Vonn should not have competed so soon after tearing her ACL — questioning whether the attempt to chase another Olympic medal was worth the severe injury. These critics point to the avoidable risk and potential long-term consequences of competing while injured.

💬 2. Negative Social Media Commentary
On platforms like Reddit and other forums, some commenters have taken a harsher line — suggesting she was reckless or even selfish, saying things like:
“She just had to post about herself again.”
“Completely selfish of her to participate.”
This backlash reflects a broader tension between admiration for elite athletes’ grit and concern over the health risks of competing injured — especially at age 41, in Vonn’s case.
